- Late last week, Towers Perrin released its annual survey of tort costs. Thanks to Deepwater Horizon ($19B), costs rose 5.1%. Without that disaster, they would have fallen 2.4%.
- Earnings season in full swing, with perhaps the biggest news that Munich Re 2011 profits fell more than 70%. Of course, given all the catastrophes last year (Japan, Thailand, NZ, US tornadoes and some stuff I doubtless missed) and the Eurozone crisis, that could be seen as relatively good news.
