Strictly personal: cars

This post has nothing to do with insurance, or actuaries, but Consumer Reports ran (sub. req.) the following table comparing the new Mustang with the classic 1970 Mustang Boss 302:

Now I’m not a car guy. I think my first car was a 1970 Ford Fairlane. Feel free to correct me in comments, but I think it had a 302-cubic-inch V-8 similar to the Boss, but not souped up. (Do car guys still say souped up?)

The interesting thing to me is that today’s engine is 25% smaller but outperforms the classic muscle car in every way and not by a little bit. It delivers more horsepower and faster acceleration to a heavier car but still gets twice the gas mileage.

Just a tiny testament to the march of progress. That is all.

It was a ’69 Ford Fairlane with a manual transimission, and it could really move. What a great car!
