March 11: Barnum’s rules applied to financial markets

Doing as little research as possible, I stumbled upon P.T. Barnum’s three rules for success in business:

  1. Gain the confidence of the public as being upright, honest, and conscientious.
  2. Supply the best that can be obtained.
  3. Advertise in every way possible.

Read them carefully. He doesn’t say to be upright, honest and conscientious, nor does he say to supply the best available.

All of which leads me to his better known rule, illustrated once again.
